Warren Seay '09 Awarded
Truman Scholarship

Warren SeayThe Institute proudly congratulates Warren Seay on his selection as a Truman Scholar.  Warren is a Political Science major at Southern Methodist University, where he is a Ray and Nancy Ann Hunt Leadership Scholar.   He serves as a Big Brother in the north Texas area and has earned Big Brother of the Year honors.  He also volunteers his time as a mentor for the Dallas Community Lighthouse, an organization that assists at-risk youth.

The Institute also congratulates Michael Britt ’09 and Mario Carroll ’09, who were also finalists, nominated by Amherst College and the University of California, respectively.

The Institute for Responsible Citizenship is an intensive leadership program for America’s best and brightest African-American male college students. Our mission is to prepare men to be exemplary citizens and leaders. We inspire them to pursue extraordinary career success, not simply for their benefit, but as a platform from which they can serve others.



Rakim Brooks '08 Awarded
Rhodes Scholarship


Rakim Brooks
The Institute is proud to congratulate Rakim Brooks on his designation as a 2009 Rhodes Scholar.  Though others have been finalists, Rakim is the first Institute scholar to receive the prestigious scholarship. 

Rakim, from New York City, is a senior at Brown University, where he is an Africana Stu dies major.  While participating in the Institute’s two-summer program, he interned at the Brookings Institution in 2007 and the Center for Law and Social Policy in 2008. 

At Oxford, he will earn a M.Phil. in Comparative Social Policy.  After earning a doctorate, he hopes to become a professor.
